General Science set to start up Cambodia tire plant, ramp up Thai production

Chinese tire maker Jiangsu General Science Technology (JGST) is set to start up production at a new tire plant in Cambodia, while also ramping up production at its facility in Thailand.

In a recent statement, the manufacturer said the €166-million (1.3 billion yuan) tire factory in Sihanoukville special economic zone, in western Cambodia, would come on-line by the yearend.

Initially scheduled for start-up this September, the Cambodian factory is designed to have the capacity to produce 6 million units of passenger car tires annually.

In addition, JGST is to fully ramp up production at its €260-million Thai factory, which has the annual capacity to produce 1 million truck and bus tires and 6 million passenger car tires.

“The sharing of resources between China, Thailand and Cambodia will further consolidate and enhance the company's competitive advantage,” said JGST.

The company also unveiled plans for further growth through digitalisation and intelligent manufacturing, said its statement.

As part of this, General Science said it would further build the 'industrial brain, general cloud & smart logistics [and] deeply integrate advanced technologies into tire manufacturing.

“[We will] explore the construction of a smart tire factory model in the industry to improve human efficiency, energy efficiency and product efficiency,” the company added.
