Conti mobility study shows cars remain preferred travel option post-Covid

Cars continue to gain in importance as a result of the pandemic and have become an integral part of many people’s travel and leisure-time habits, the latest Continental mobility study has shown.

The research, participated by 1,000 German citizens aged between 18 and 70, showed that a majority of people consider cars as “an essential part” of their mobility and their personal living space.

The survey, conducted in May, showed that 54% percent of study respondents see their car as a place of personal refuge.

More than half use a car or camper van/motor home for vacation trips, avoiding long waiting check-in times at airports or heavily overcrowded public transportation.

The vast majority of those who reported having travelled during the pandemic asserted in the survey that they intend to continue using their vehicle for traveling post-pandemic.

More than half of the survey participants – 55% – have used their cars more frequently since the start of the pandemic.

The survey in Germany is part of Continental’s bigger mobility study 2022, which was conducted in May and participated by 6,000 people across Germany, France, Norway, the US, Japan and China.

Continental plans to publish the full results at the end of June.
