Holidaymakers warned of new winter tire law in France

Continental AG has warned holidaymakers planning to drive to France during the winter months about a new tire law that has come into force on 1 Nov in various parts of the country.

The winter tire regulation is now active from November to the end of March and requires motorists to have winter specific tires fitted when travelling in 48 French regions, said Conti in a 23 Nov statement.

Failing to observe the law could incur a fine of €135, according to the German tire maker.

Including popular skiing and mountainous destinations, such as the Alps, Pyrenees, Vosges, Jura and Massif Central, the winter tire law applies to all private cars and vans, commercial vehicles and motorhomes.

Vehicles fitted with all-season tires that have the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMS) marking will also be permitted to drive in these areas in France.
