China records two-digit increases in tire exports

China exported 46.1 million units of ‘new rubber tires’ in October 2020, up 26.1% from October 2019, official state figures show.

The value of exports, as presented in US dollars, increased 18.3% from a year ago, to $1.3 billion (€1.1 billion), according to China’s General Administration of Customs. This contrasts to a 6.9% year-on-year increase in September.

Weight of these exports in October also climbed 24.8% from a year ago, to 590,000 tonnes.

This is the first time in 2020 that these numbers registered two-digit increase across the board.

Nevertheless, China’s tire exports over the first ten months of 2020 still contracted by 7.7% compared with the same period in 2019, to 384 million units.

The ten-month export value slumped 12.9% to $10.8 billion; volumes in tonnage fell by 5.6% to 4.9 million tonnes.

All the rates of decline for ten-month exports are lower compared with nine-month rates in September.
